We all know that two of the greatest hip hop artists ever were 2Pac and Outlawz. The guys never had a bad thing to say about anyone, and they’re legends. They paved the way for other artists in hip hop, like Big Daddy Kane and Cypress Hill.
Outlawz are from Memphis, TN. Big Daddy Kane, born Otis Reid, was an MC that made his own name in the industry. He has many songs that have been famous on the charts all over the world. The song, “If It Don’t Kill You, It Makes You Strong” is one of his many classics.
Kane, born Gerald Gibson, was born in Marion, TN. The story behind how he got his name is even more amazing. When a neighbor was attacked by a serial killer, Gibson’s mother came home one day, but she wasn’t there.
Gerald was actually found hours later, after the killer killed another woman. Gibson went home that night and told his mother that he had killed someone. His mother said, “Gerald, I can help you; but you will not get out of here alive.”
Two of the best lyrics from Outlawz’ songs were written by Jay-Z. One of the most listened to song on the charts is called “Po Pimp” (Meeting Private Ryan). This song talks about American soldiers who died fighting against the Axis powers. The song was so popular, that the United States president had to address it during the Second World War.
Another important Outlawz song was called “Don’t Matter”. This was one of the songs that was inspired by gang wars, especially what was happening in Atlanta. Many young people from different groups got into fights, and the song talks about how some of them got into trouble, but it will always be there to remind everyone of what a great time they were having.
Both Jay-Z and Eminem have similar influences. Eminem is an MC from Detroit, MI. He’s been in the business for quite a while now and is very successful. He has sold millions of albums and has won several awards for his amazing work.
Jay-Z grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and has gone through a criminal justice degree. He has gone from being a rapper to being one of the top entertainers. They both made it big in different ways, but both of them paved the way for other artists to become artists.
